Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Sr. Staff Cyber Security Engineer to support the CSESS program in Virginia Beach. In this senior-level role, you’ll serve as a technical leader, guiding the design and implementation of sophisticated security systems and controls that protect critical infrastructure and sensitive data. You’ll lead efforts in proactive security monitoring, threat detection, and response, while staying abreast of the evolving cybersecurity landscape. As a senior member of the team, you will play a key role in shaping security strategies, mentoring junior engineers, and fostering strong collaboration across cross-functional IT and cybersecurity teams. This position is ideal for a cybersecurity expert who is passionate about innovation, continuous learning, and mission-driven impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design the implementation of robust security systems and controls, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and vulnerability scanners to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Monitor and analyze network traffic and system activity for suspicious behavior; configure and manage alerts to proactively identify and respond to potential threats.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the evolving cybersecurity landscape through continuous learning and research to stay ahead of emerging threats and technologies.
  • Collaborate effectively with cybersecurity engineers, network engineers, system administrators, Information System Security Officers (ISSOs), and developers to foster a secure and compliant IT environment.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field, with 6 to 8 years of directly relevant experience.

  • Solid understanding of system security design processes, including defense-in-depth strategies and key information assurance principles such as confidentiality, integrity, availability, non-repudiation, and access control.

  • Experienced in risk management, configuration control, change management, contingency planning, incident handling, auditing, and navigating compliance frameworks such as the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and ICD 503.

  • Demonstrates proficiency with one or more of the following areas: security tools, hardware/software security implementations, encryption methods, communication protocols, security testing tools, and other related security mechanisms.

  • Skilled in evaluating software systems and architectures to ensure compliance with security requirements for processing classified or sensitive information.

  • Proven track record of developing, coordinating, and enforcing cybersecurity policies, standards, and methodologies within an organizational framework.

  • Committed to continuous improvement and adherence to cybersecurity best practices.

  • Strong technical foundation in network protocols, firewalls, virtual machines (VMs), identity and access management (IAM), and intrusion detection systems (IDS).

  • Familiar with the security configurations of various operating systems and experienced in using tools such as anti-malware software, vulnerability scanners, and incident response technologies.

  • Comfortable with scripting languages and automation tools used for streamlining security tasks and processes.

  • Knowledgeable in incident response planning and execution, as well as vulnerability assessment and remediation strategies.

  • Understands the principles of DevOps and how they intersect with modern security practices.

  • Certified in CompTIA Security+.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experienced in securing cloud environments and applications, with a strong understanding of cloud-native security best practices and tools.

  • Knowledgeable in DevSecOps principles and their role in embedding security throughout the software development lifecycle, ensuring secure code integration and continuous compliance.

  • Familiar with shell scripting and automation using languages such as PowerShell, Python, and Bash—supporting streamlined security operations and system management.

  • Possesses test automation and development skills, contributing to efficient and secure software delivery processes.

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), demonstrating advanced knowledge and commitment to cybersecurity leadership and best practices.
